Hervey Bay is a 4 hour drive north of Brisbane and is home to the latest navy boat to be sunk as an artificial reef for divers. The wreck is located 17 nautical miles (32 kilometres) off the coast and is a 1.5 hour boat ride from Hervey Bay Marina. The ship was decommissioned in 2015 after 34 years of service and became a shipwreck. It was sunk on the 28 June 2018 halfway between Hervey Bay and Bundaberg in 28.5 metres of water. Already there are resident turtles, up to 7 different types of shark and a school of jack.
