WW1 J Class Submarine was 84 in length, could carry 5 officers and 40 crew . It was the only Australian submarine to ever sink another submarine during deployment from 1919 - 1922. It was purchased by the Melbourne Salvage Company in 1924 and scuttled in 1926 for scuba diving in Melbourne.

On 26 February 1924 J1 was sold to the Melbourne Salvage Syndicate. The hull was sunk three miles off Barwon Heads on 26 May 1926.
